We Have The Best Coffee

image

We have the best coffee. We are selling our coffee as green beans as well as in medium and dark roast. We have special wholesale prices for café’s and shops wanting to support our company and carry our White Frog Café coffee.

The farm is located in the province of Boyacá in the municipality of Chinavita, Colombia. The elevation of the farm is 1700 meters. The variety of coffee is Castillo.

We own a one-hectare plot of land and have 5000 coffee plants on this land. The land is also lush with many kinds of trees and plants including avocado trees, mandarin oranges, banana trees, mango trees, pineapple as well as different species of wood trees giving shade to approx. 60 % of the land.

We have family and neighbors that also have coffee farms that are involved in our coffee project. All of these farms have the same quality, variety and is grown in the same elevation as our farm. All together we have access to approx. 10 000 lbs of coffee including our farm, our family farms, and neighbors in the immediate area.

The farmer is Ronald Contreras, born and raised on this family farm. Ronald grew up working on the farm and has furthered his education in flower exportation and quality control. Ronald moved to Canada in 2007. Since living in Canada, he has obtained his Aircraft Maintenance Engineer licence. Ronald has become part of the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation getting support and training from them to elevate the quality of the coffee.

We have invested in new machinery to lessen the physical damage done by old worn our machinery and are continuously doing any upgrades that we can. We have a unique idea that we feel will benefit the farmers. We know firsthand that the farmers do so much work and at the end of the day they don’t get very good money for their beans. We feel that coffee being imported to Canada and being sold here for top dollar, the farmer deserves to benefit from that. We are starting our own certification we are calling “White Frog Certification, FAIR PAYED”. What is fair payed? Any coffee that we bring to Canada from Colombia and sold here in Canada, we will give the farmer of that coffee $.25 per pound to be invested back into their farm to better their farming situation. Ronald is so passionate about helping the other farmers in his area. They are our family, our friends and our neighbors.

He feels so blessed to have been given the opportunity to live and work in Canada and now this huge opportunity to start a business here in Canada that can help his family and neighbors in Colombia is just amazing. We have purchased another piece of land that is 4.8 hectares and we have started 5000 coffee plants by seed that will be planted on this land at the beginning of September. This new crop will be producing beans in approx. 18 months time. From the form of seed to the time of planting and when the coffee produces beans is approx. 25 months.

Growing up in southwestern Manitoba, Kelly learned early on what hard work and determination was by the example set by her father, a small business owner for over 40 years. Kelly went to school in Brandon, MB and started her first business venture in downtown Brandon at the age of 22. Over the next decade Kelly tried several different businesses and eventually decided to go to college to become a Red Seal Machinist. Loving the challenge and working with metal Kelly became a skilled journeyperson and enjoyed a great career working in the aerospace industry in Winnipeg, MB. Meeting Ronald was a whole new adventure for Kelly and eventually the two of them made their way to Sylvan Lake, AB. where they now call home. Being an entrepreneur at heart when the opportunity arose that Kelly and Ronald could start a business here in Canada and incorporate helping Ronald’s family, neighbors and friends in Colombia the decision to start a coffee farm was an easy one. Kelly and Ronald are working together to grow, import and sell an amazing high quality product here in Canada.

As a young boy, Ronald would lay on a mountain side staring up at the sky dreaming of his future. He would watch the odd airplane fly overhead and he promised himself that someday he would build that airplane and fly it. Fast forward thirty years and Ronald is living in Canada working as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. Ronald’s family farm in Colombia has been in his family for generations. Over the years the land has been divided among family members and some of it has been sold. Ronald always dreamed of buying back some of the lost land and becoming a farmer and businessman and following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, Graciliano. Inheriting a piece of land along the Garagoa River where he grew up was the start to this dream. In May 2015, Ronald and Kelly started their coffee farm venture and planted 5000 coffee plants on a one hector plot of land. Together with hard work and determination Ronald and Kelly are producing some of the best coffee in the world from their farm in Colombia, South America and bringing it to Alberta Canada for you to enjoy!

Community Fundraisers

image

Helping our Colombian community has been a goal, along with helping our community here in Canada as well. This is where the idea of community fundraisers came to be.

For community fundraisers the coffee is being sold at the retail price of $16.99 per 340 gram bag. From that $16.99 a donation of $5 per bag goes to the fundraiser.  This is an excellent way to raise money for your group, school, team or someone in need. Signing up for a White Frog Café Fundraising Event will help our communities in both Colombia and Canada. Please contact White Frog Café for more information and to book your upcoming fundraising event.
